Origin of symmerty (MUSE2001)

Origin of symmerty is in no doubt a true work of art, it’s everything an album should be and it’s structured very well and it’s music genres go from classical/opera inspired music to “Deftones” styled Nu metal .

-         New Born is the opening track of the album and its piano riff bring the listener into the song in a majestic way and then the guitar riff takes the song into a totally  different genre style more similar to a heavy rock song.

The track itself talks about the fear of technology ruling the world and mankind’s body not being important anymore because every human is connected to a big network.

-         Bliss is the second track and “the best song I have ever composed” says Matt Bellamy.

It talks about the state of mind of giving everything without wanting anything in return and it’s a very 80s driven song, with very progressive and cool synth arpeggios that accompany the entire song.

-         Space Dementia is a Rachmaninov piano inspired song that was made into a rock sounding masterpiece that talks about the feeling (Space dementia) of when you’re in space for too long and you lose contact with other humans for too long.

The song itself is very diverse because it’s starts as a classical song, a violent classical song, until the chorus when it bcomes more technological with the addition of synth, phasers, flangers, and a loopin synth-piano

-         Hyper Music is the song that follows Space dementia, giving the album a push more into the distortion bass/heavy singing style that muse has always had.

The lyrics are pure hate and aggressiveness and some hypothesis say it might be anti-religious.

The song has an Outro that begins the intro to “plug in Baby”

-         Plug In Baby is the most important example of what a fuzz factory can do to a guitar,r it’s the most famous muse song since its release and it’s quite psychedelic when you listen very closely .

The song has the same themes as “New Born” and  the lyrics are very confusing because they seem to talk about an actual person instead it talks about a person re-built into a body in space.

-         Citizen Erased is one of the best songs in the album and it’s played with a 7-string guitar, the riff was build around Dominic’s drum riff (that is different in compare to the regular composing process).

The song is very popular and it’s one of the most played by fans and cover-bands .

The song’s themes include the existence of life and the question of its sense and meaning, it also has references from the book “nineteen-eighty-four” where a citizen can be erased and humanity is controlled by lies.

-         Micro Cuts is one of the most nightmare-ish themed songs off the album and it’s talks about a dream made by Matt where he was in the desert and triangular blades were cutting through the back of his head, referencing the micro waves that are used (in theory) to brain wash minds by sending radiations that we don’t feel, see and can’t void, that create impulses

-         Screenager is a quiet moment of the album because it’s very easy to listen to, with very soft vocals by matt and very light drums.

Its themes are about the modern teenager being raised in a world where a screen controls the person’s mind so the person feels rejected  because of the idea of the body and fashion made by magazines and television, it also refers to “cutting yourselves” as a need of “something brutal to remind you what your body’s about”.

-         Dark Shines starts up the album again with a chaotic, latin-esque sounding song about a girl (probably very young) very desirable that is a the same time very dark and moody, but the fact of it attracts you even more.

-         Feeling Good is a cover song muse made and it’s the most popular cover they’ve ever made, it was composed in the 1920s for a musical

It’s so depressing in musical form but the lyrics are very positive and like most of the album they’re about “becoming yourself” and that’s why they decided to cover it and put it in the album.

-         Megalomania is a great album closer, there’s nothing muse has ever done that’s bigger than this song, musically speaking.

The song itself talks about God asking the human race why they’re continuing to multiply? What’s the point?.

The song was recorded with Europe’s biggest church organ and the priest of the church asked them for the lyrics before allowing them to record, but they didn’t have any yet
