Love is an album divided in 3
parts:
-
LOVE I
-
LOVE II
-
Love (the
movie)
It’s a very interesting art
project featuring a double album and a movie, and the project is about love and
human connections and what we are without them.
I am not going to review the movie
right now but I’ll review the first album.
LOVE PART 1
-
Et Ducit
Mundum Per Luce is the opening track to the LOVE I album and the whole concept,
it’s completely instrumental and it leads into the album in a nice way mixing
electronic sounds with slow/easy rock sounds and epic classical-like marching
music.
- The flight
of Apollo is the second track of the album that starts with a very light
electronic synth arpeggio with Tom singing lyrics about (in my opinion) being
left behind but not completely.
After the
soft intro there’s an explosion of sound then the song actually begins, with a
hint of the arpeggios back in the chorus.
After the
explosion the lyrics tend more to go in the theme of friendship and how someone
needs a someone else to make life not “hurt so badly”.
-
Young
London is the continue to The flght of Apollo and goes into more rock and punk
riffs
Many say
that this song talks about war, but in my opinion this song doesn’t talk about
war in general but more about going to war knowing you’ll never see your loved
ones ever again and so to make ever second together beautiful.
The chorus
makes me think about women with their husbands going to war and that deserve on
last night with them before they go and might not come back.
-
Shove
starts after the interlude between Young London and the song itself and has
more of a 90s rock sound like U2 and some pop band that only makes sad slow
songs.
In my
opinion this song talks about friendship and/or relationships and family. The
theme of the song goes around the fact that people tend to close their emotions
when they’re negative emotions but also how there’s always someone that will
try to help no matter what and that someone is always someone you can trust.
Another
scenario the song touches s the fact that when someone s so trusted and
special, you usually fall in love with the person and it’s so unexpected that
you don’t know how to react … But that person is there for you.
The song
ends with an interlude like the earlier 2 tracks.
-
Epic
Holiday is a mixture of electronic, pop, pop-punk, 90s style soft-rock and the
original style of AVA.
The song
talks about – in my opinion – how our life is nothing but a cycle, a loop and
everything goes around: working, earning, sleeping, making the future kids and
finally going to die. That cycle takes away our humanity and our emotions and
that’s wrong.
-
Hallucinations
is a very cool song with fast punk chord and a very explosive structure and an epic bridge.
In my
opinion, the song talks about the death of someone love – possibly during war –
and how we wished the person back with us even more when we know he/she’s gone.
-
The moon
atomic is song about how there’s no dark side of the moon and everything at the
end can turn out well with faith in others and help.
The
structure of the song is very simple although some elements are very
experimental - for example the picked strings in the chorus and the robotic
voice in the interlude.
-
Clever love
is a song that in my opinion sets all the song of the album love into meaning.
It can talk about different things: one idea of mine is that it talks about a
father talking to his son/daughter and the other is about an – apparently -
almost impossible love forming and going on and on for years.
The
structure of the song is very spacey and pop-ish, and t has some elements from
the interlude of the moon atomic (tom’s voice sayng “you, you’re all that want….).
- Soul survivor
(2012) is mellow at the beginning and very technological and spacey.
The song is
sort of a mix between alternative rock of the time that angels and airwaves us
often and some more modern musical instruments.
In my
opinion it talks about the loss of an identity and how isolation makes a person
“unexist”.
- Letters to
god part II is the sequel of letters to god from the band Boxcar racer (another
band in wich both David Kennedy and Tom DeLonge used to be in) and it starts very
easy-like with a static guitar then a repetition
of synth arpeggios during a chord progression.
In my
opinion the song talks about the circle of life and how life is all around us
even in simple things and how people need other people to continue life itself from
the moment f birth till we die.
-
Some origins
of fire is a song that is not my
favorite at all from the album but I like it anyway.
It has a
unusual start, because it uses instruments that I can’t tell what they are, but
when the guitars start it becomes more uniform and starts taking a certant
style that ava always uses.
The themes
used for the lyrics of this song are, in my opinion are the spirit f giving and
friendship but at the same time having these properties applied between
strangers in time of need.
